2012 was the first year women were allowed to box in the Olympic Games. Gender parity after 2000 years. I was on the trail of the women who were hoping to make history, documenting their stories for NYT, NPR, and WNYC. At the last qualifying tournament, a shy 16-year old named Claressa "T-Rex" Shields entered the ring. It was clear she was the one to follow.
