CO-PRODUCER/TEEN CONTENDER
Collaboration with Radio Diaries, WNYC, The New York Times Magazine, and PRX.

2012. The first time women were allowed to box in the Olympic Games. Gender parity after 2000 years.

One of the contenders was 16 year old Claressa Shields, a junior at Northwestern High School in Flint, Michigan. I began photographing Claressa at her first open tournament in Toledo, Ohio. I teamed up with Radio Diaries to follow her as she prepared for the Olympic trials.

Our story was a part with WNYC’s Women Box, which I produced with Marianne McCune. All those stories are at Women Box.

You can see more of my photos of female boxers in The New York Times Magazine.
